Riddhima Ghosh - Week 10: THE Best Snacks.

Week 10: THE Best Snacks.
Trader Joe’s is such a vibe, and I think it is something special to American suburban culture because it turned a boring chore into something so much more exciting. I hate grocery shopping, but if my dad tells me he’s going to Trader Joe’s, you'd best bet I’m tagging along.
Walk down any aisle, and you just see rows and rows of endless new and creative snack combinations. It's absolute heaven. From chili-lime rolled tortilla chips to pumpkin spice everything the second September hits, Trader Joe’s turns everyday grocery runs into hype, novelty, and pop culture. And somewhere along the way, buying groceries transformed from a mundane weekend errand into an aesthetic lifestyle. We see this play out constantly across social media. I love watching TikTok hauls as influencers (my favorite: Emma & EJ) try out the new snacks they just bought with the biggest smile on their faces, radiating excitement. It isn’t just the fact that these snacks are so fun that makes them go viral; Trader Joe’s has completely mastered the game of artificial scarcity. By dropping seasonal flavors for limited windows, they build a constant sense of FOMO— similar to how brands like Starbucks or Garage keep people hooked. In this way, you’re not just buying a bag of chips; you're buying something you might never see on the shelves again until next year. What amplifies the hype even more is its illusion of a cozy, small-town market. With handwritten chalkboard signs, street signs at the registers, employees wearing Hawaiian shirts, they mask the reality of corporate retail and make the experience feel personal and inviting. And unlike traditional supermarkets that overwhelm you with fifty choices of the same exact olive oil, Trader Joe’s curates a streamlined selection, allowing for a shopping experience for the wide demographic obsessed with health trends, convenience, and aesthetic packaging, catering directly to modern American lifestyle that relies on convenience to romanticize our everyday routine.
